HOLDERS OF EU LICENCES

If you have a valid community licence this will authorise you to drive in Italy without any problem.

If you are the holder of a valid community driving licence and you are going to take up residence in Italy than you have three possibilities:

 

•     you can exchange your licence for an Italian one on the basis of a correspondence list;

•    you can hold your driving licence but let it be recognize. In this case you have to go to the “Motorizzazione” within 90 days after taking up the residence. You will have to complete the application form and enclose the following documents:

 

• a self certification stating that you are resident in Italy or a certificate of residence;

•  the receipt of the payment required. After the request you will receive by the designated office covering your area a coupon that has to be affixed on your driving licence. On the coupon is also indicated the expiry date of the driving licence.

 

• ·      you can hold your driving licence without recognizing it . But in that case you could get some problem or delays. you should ask for a duplicate because the licence could be stolen, gone lost or even got destroy. If something like that happens it would be necessary to ask at the registry office (and the consulate) to issue it once again.
