DRIVING IN ITALY

 
 

Driving rules are very important in Italy so they  have to be observed while driving. First of all you have to bring your driving licence always with you.


You must also  remember that the speed limits are usually as follow:

ROAD

Highway (Autostrada)

Free highway (Superstrada)

110 kph

Outside of town

90 kph

In town

Please pay attention to the signs that indicate changing in speed limits above all in case of bad weather.

Other rules that  have to be observe while driving in Italy and which have been recently brought in are  indicated below:  

  • on the motorways/highways, on the free highways and outside the towns you have to turn your dipped headlights on. The sign “in autostrada anabbaglianti sempre accesi” means “on the highway keep your headlights always on”

  • you may use your mobile phone only with either hands-free equipment or headsets;

  • seatbelts are compulsory in the front and rear of the vehicle;
  • children are required to be 12 years old to be allow to sit in the front passenger seat;
  • the alcohol level for DUI is 0.5 BAC. This means that if you have a glass of wine and a grappa with dinner and you get stopped, you will be fined;
  • you are required to carry a warning triangle and a reflective jacket in the car.
